Question 1

Can I use pumpkin pie filling instead of pumpkin purée?

Accepted Answer

I don’t recommend it. Pumpkin pie filling already contains added sweeteners and spices, which will change both the flavour and consistency of these protein balls. Look for a can labelled 100% pure pumpkin purée instead.

Question 2

Why are my pumpkin protein balls too sticky?

Accepted Answer

Pumpkin purée can vary quite a bit in moisture content, and different protein powders absorb liquid differently too. If your mixture is too sticky to roll, refrigerate it for 15 to 20 minutes first. If it’s still too wet, mix in a little extra almond flour or shredded coconut until it holds its shape.

Question 3

Do pumpkin protein balls need to be refrigerated?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Since they’re made with pumpkin purée, store your pumpkin protein balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll keep for up to one week and taste great straight from the fridge.
