I’m not going to lie – I used to go on a few health kicks back in the day. I’m talkin’ way back. Probably before I was even able to give you a valid reason for going on said health kick. What can I say?! Like many young and confused people today – I latched on to everything I saw on social media that was supposed to give me this allstar body I thought I wanted…or needed at the time (turns out that hey, my body then and now is completely fine!)

I went on the Master Cleanse at one point. This so-called diet forbidded all and any kind of food and revolved solely around a drink consisting of lemon, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. I went on the Cabbage Soup Diet. Tried this thing and that thing only to not stick to any of them and to try something new and different the following week.

Well, I’m glad I dropped those habits. And I guess I can admit that I also picked up some good ones in that health kick era. Exhibit A: This Apple Cider Vinegar with Lemon Water. A drink I’ve been drinkin’ for years and years and one that I’ve always loved. I picked it up for the health benefits I had read about – improved skin health, detoxification, improved digestion – and it’s always one that I never felt the need to kick to the curb! It’s as refreshing as it is delicious, so easy to make and I pretty much ALWAYS have lemon and apple cider vinegar on hand so really, it’s a no brainer!

This apple cider vinegar with lemon water is the perfect balance of tangy and refreshing. It’s great for any time of day! I love it after a workout, in the mornings, afternoons or before bed. It’s a great way to add a little oomph to your water and a smart way to drink more altogether. After all of these years, I can really say that I still enjoy it just as much as I did the first time I tried it. And judging by how the boyfriend made me promise to make him one every day after work some time ago (and I still do!), it’s a people pleaser and I just know you’ll love it, too!

  • Water: A fundamental component of the drink. It serves as the base and diluent for the other ingredients. It hydrates the body and helps maintain bodily functions. In the context of lemonade, water provides a refreshing and neutral backdrop for the other flavours.
  • Ice Cubes: Added to the drink to chill it, making it more refreshing, especially on hot days. The cold temperature also enhances the overall experience of this apple cider vinegar lemonade by providing a pleasant sensation. However, apple cider vinegar is also good in hot or room temperature water.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): Made from fermented apple juice. It adds a tangy flavour that complements the sweetness of other ingredients. It contains acetic acid, which gives it its sour taste. ACV is often known for its potential health benefits including aiding digestion, lowering blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss. However, scientific evidence supporting these claims is limited and mixed.
  • Lemons: Adds some tartness, sourness and acidity to the drink. It adds a bright, tangy flavour that balances the sweetness of the drink. Freshly squeezed lemon juice works best in this recipe.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DOES APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND LEMON WATER DO?

When apple cider vinegar and lemon water combine, it creates a tangy and refreshing beverage that offers a unique blend of potential health benefits. The combination of apple cider vinegar and lemon water is often considered a detoxifying drink that may support digestion, promote hydration and provide a boost of vitamin C. Some people believe that the acidity of apple cider vinegar, combined with the vitamin C and citric acid in lemon water, can help alkalize the body and balance its pH levels.

Additionally, some people suggest that drinking apple cider vinegar with lemon water may help in weight management. It’s thought to curb appetite and promote feelings of fullness. However, it’s important to note that there is not much scientific evidence supporting these claims and individual experiences may vary. As with any dietary change, it’s advisable to consume this mixture in moderation and as part of a balanced diet to maximize any potential benefits. If you have specific health concerns or conditions, it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating new beverages into your routine.

IS IT BETTER TO DRINK APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AT NIGHT OR MORNING?

Whether it’s better to drink apple cider vinegar in the morning or at night largely depends on personal preference and individual health goals. Some people prefer to consume ACV in the morning to kickstart their metabolism and provide an energy boost for the day ahead. Drinking it on an empty stomach in the morning may also help with digestion and absorption of nutrients from subsequent meals throughout the day. Additionally, some individuals find that drinking ACV in the morning helps them feel more alert and focused.

On the other hand, some people prefer to drink ACV at night as part of their bedtime routine. Consuming it before bed may help promote feelings of fullness and satiety, potentially reducing late-night snacking and overeating. Additionally, some individuals believe that drinking ACV at night can help regulate blood sugar levels. They also believe it can improve insulin sensitivity, which may be beneficial for individuals with diabetes or those looking to manage their weight.

Ultimately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer! It’s essential to listen to your body and assess how ACV affects you personally. Some individuals may experience stomach discomfort or acid reflux when consuming ACV on an empty stomach. But others may tolerate it well. Experimenting with different timing and observing how your body responds can help you determine the best time to incorporate ACV into your routine.

CAN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR CLEAN OUT YOUR LIVER?

The idea that apple cider vinegar (ACV) can effectively “clean out” the liver is a common claim often promoted in popular health circles. However, it’s essential to approach this claim with caution and skepticism. While ACV does contain acetic acid, which may have some potential health benefits, there is limited scientific evidence to support the notion that it can detoxify or cleanse the liver.

The liver is a vital organ responsible for filtering toxins from the bloodstream, metabolizing nutrients, and aiding in digestion. It has remarkable regenerative capabilities and can repair itself to some extent when damaged. Proponents of using ACV for liver health often cite its potential to support digestion, regulate blood sugar levels, and aid in weight management as indirect benefits for liver function. However, direct evidence linking ACV consumption to liver detoxification or cleansing is lacking. While incorporating moderate amounts of diluted ACV into your diet may offer some potential health benefits, it’s essential to be wary of exaggerated claims about its ability to cleanse or detoxify the liver.
