If you’re not new here (thank you, ol’ friend!), then you allllready know how much I LOVE making my own salad dressings. I mean, why not, right?! I can pretty much bet it’s waaay faster than getting out of your PJs and heading to the store. And besides, when you make them yourself, you get to control exactly what goes in them.

I’m talkin’ ingredient-wise (yes, super important) and flavour-wise. Now, don’t get me wrong — I adore a good ol’ Caesar salad with classic Caesar dressing. But if you give a wizard a wand in the kitchen… don’t be surprised if they conjure up a magical twist on the classic. 😉

Ever since using tahini as a base for my vegan salad dressing, I knew it was destined to star in more of my dressings — like this one. So, if you love Caesar salads, or just want to start being a magical little kitchen wizard yourself, you’ve got to give this tahini Caesar dressing a try. Made with wholesome ingredients you probably already have hanging out in your pantry, who knows? You might just like this version even better than the classic.

Complete list of ingredients and amounts can be found in the recipe card below.

This tahini Caesar dressing uses simple, healthy pantry staples that come together to create a creamy, tangy, and deeply flavourful dressing that’s a fresh take on the classic. Each ingredient plays an important role in building that iconic Caesar flavour (but with a healthy twist!). Let’s discuss them in a little bit more detail down below:

  • Tahini: This creamy paste made from ground sesame seeds adds rich, nutty depth and smooth texture. It’s the star of this dressing and a fantastic dairy-free alternative to traditional Caesar’s mayo or cheese base.

  • Anchovy Paste: A little goes a long way here, providing that signature salty, umami punch that defines classic Caesar dressing without overpowering the other flavours. If you can’t find anchovy paste, you can use a finely minced anchovy fillet instead.

  • Lemon Juice: Adds bright acidity to balance the richness of the tahini and bring freshness.

  • Dijon Mustard: Offers a subtle tang and helps emulsify the dressing, keeping it smooth and creamy.

  • Garlic: Brings that unmistakable bite and savoury depth essential to Caesar dressing. Fresh minced or grated garlic works best in this recipe.

  • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds complexity with its blend of sweet, tangy, and umami notes, enhancing the overall flavour.

  • Maple Syrup/Honey: Just a touch to balance the acidity and round out the flavours. You can easily omit or swap this for a keto-friendly sweetener if you want to make a keto Caesar dressing.

  • Salt and Pepper: Essential for seasoning, salt enhances all the flavours, while freshly ground black pepper adds a mild heat and depth.

  • Water: Used to thin the dressing to your preferred consistency without diluting the flavour.

HOW TO MAKE TAHINI CAESAR DRESSING (KEY TIPS)

You can find full instructions for how to make this dairy free Caesar dressing in the recipe card down below, but here are a few quick tips to keep in mind:

  • Use well-stirred tahini. Tahini can separate in the jar, with oil rising to the top. Give it a good stir before measuring to ensure a smooth, creamy dressing.

  • Fresh garlic is key. Pre-minced garlic or powders won’t give the same punch. Therefore, use freshly grated or minced garlic for the best flavour.

  • Don’t skip the anchovy paste (or fillet!). It’s the secret to that authentic umami depth. If you can’t find anchovy paste, finely mince one anchovy fillet and mash it into the dressing. Add gradually to avoid overpowering the flavours.

  • Balance acidity and sweetness. Taste as you go! Adjust lemon juice and sweetener to suit your preference. Some like it tangier, others slightly sweeter.

  • Emulsify well. Whisk vigorously or use a blender to combine ingredients fully for a silky texture.

  • Start with less water. Add water gradually to thin the dressing. It’s easier to add more than to fix a too-thin dressing.

  • Season last. Add salt and pepper after mixing the dressing so you can better judge the final flavour.

  • Store properly. Keep leftovers refrigerated in a sealed container for up to a week. Shake or whisk before using, as natural separation may occur. EXTRA TIP: If you find that the dressing has thickened up a bit too much in the fridge, add a splash or two of water to loosen/thin it out.
