A good bagel BLT is all about contrast. You’ve got the crunch of crisp lettuce, juicy tomato slices, smoky bacon, and a warm toasted bagel that holds everything together. Pair it with my homemade garlic aioli for even more flavour, serve it alongside a classic Caesar salad for a lighter meal, or add a bowl of broccoli mushroom soup when you’re craving something cozy. Ingredient Notes

The Best Bagels for a BLT
The bagel you choose can completely change the flavour and texture of your sandwich. Everything bagels are my go to because the savoury seasoning pairs perfectly with the smoky bacon and creamy garlic aioli. They also add a little extra crunch once toasted.
Plain bagels are a great choice if you want the bacon, tomato, and lettuce to take center stage. Sesame bagels bring a subtle nutty flavour that works especially well with the richness of the bacon, while onion bagels add an extra layer of savoury flavour that makes the sandwich feel even more deli-inspired. If you’re not sure which variety to use, check out my guide to the different types of bagels to find the best match for your taste.
Whichever variety you choose, make sure it’s toasted. A lightly crisp exterior helps support all those fresh fillings while adding another layer of texture to every bite.
Thick-Cut Bacon Works Best
Thick-cut bacon gives this bagel BLT sandwich the hearty, stacked look and satisfying bite you’d expect from a deli sandwich. It stays crisp longer, adds more smoky flavour, and holds its own against the chewy bagel and juicy tomatoes. If you prefer cooking bacon in the oven, my broiled bacon recipe is a great way to get it crispy with minimal cleanup.
If you’re using regular bacon, that’s totally fine. Just be sure to cook it until nicely crisp so it doesn’t get lost among the other ingredients. For an extra special sandwich, homemade bacon made from pork belly adds incredible flavour and takes this deli-style BLT to the next level.
Mayo vs Garlic Aioli
Classic mayonnaise gives a BLT its familiar creamy richness, but garlic aioli takes things up a notch. The subtle garlic flavour pairs beautifully with the smoky bacon and fresh vegetables, giving the sandwich a more deli-style, café-inspired feel.
I love using my homemade garlic aioli whenever I have a batch on hand, but regular store bought or homemade mayonnaise works just as well. You can also switch things up with spicy mayo, chipotle mayo, mustard mayo, or even pesto mayo. Each one brings its own flavour while adding the creamy richness that ties the whole sandwich together.

Tips for the Best BLT Bagel
- Pat the tomatoes dry. A quick blot with paper towel removes excess moisture and helps keep the bagel from getting soggy.
- Don’t skip the toast. A warm, toasted bagel adds flavour, improves texture, and creates a sturdier base for all those fillings.
- Cook the bacon until crisp. Crispy bacon adds the best texture and is much easier to bite through than softer strips that tend to slide around.
- Layer lettuce against the bagel. Creating a barrier between the bagel and tomatoes helps keep everything fresh and prevents excess moisture from soaking into the bread.
- Assemble just before serving. This sandwich is at its best when the bagel is still slightly warm, the bacon is crisp, and the lettuce is nice and crunchy.

Easy BLT Bagel Variations
Avocado BLT Bagel
Add a few slices of ripe avocado for extra creaminess and richness. You can also swap the sliced avocado for a layer of homemade guacamole, which adds fresh flavour and a little extra texture. It pairs especially well with the crispy bacon and garlic aioli.
Egg BLT Bagel
Turn your BLT bagel into a hearty breakfast or brunch by adding an egg. Fluffy scrambled eggs add extra protein and a soft, creamy texture that pairs beautifully with the crispy bacon and toasted bagel. For a firmer option that’s easier to stack, an over hard egg works just as well.
Spicy BLT Bagel
If you like a little heat, swap the garlic aioli for spicy mayo or chipotle mayo. You can also add sliced jalapeños or a few dashes of your favourite hot sauce.
Turkey Bacon BLT
Looking for a lighter option? Turkey bacon works well here, especially when cooked until crisp. You’ll still get that satisfying crunch while keeping the sandwich a little leaner.

What to Serve with a BLT Bagel
A BLT bagel is satisfying enough to stand on its own, but the right side dish can turn it into a complete lunch or brunch spread.
For something classic, serve it with a handful of chips, crunchy pickles, or a side of fresh fruit. If you’re looking for something a little heartier, crispy home fries or homemade potato chips are always a great choice.
On cooler days, pair your sandwich with a bowl of potato leek soup or no noodle chicken soup for a cozy, café-style meal. And if you’re serving this BLT bagel for brunch or a casual gathering, a crisp iceberg lettuce salad, shaved parmesan arugula salad, or sliced feta tomatoes makes a fresh, crunchy side that complements the rich bacon and creamy aioli beautifully.
